A final report on achievement in the 2005-10 strategic plan
Earlier this month, executive vice president and provost Elizabeth Hoffman gave Iowa State's final progress report on the 2005-10 strategic plan to the state Board of Regents.

Around campus

Student attends conference on leading alternative spring breaks
Graduate student Jeritt Tucker is attending a conference (on a scholarship) in the Dominican Republic this week to learn how to develop quality alternative spring break programs for students.

Five members will join hall of fame in August
The Iowa African-American Hall of Fame, currently housed in Iowa State's Black Cultural Center on Welch Avenue, will induct five new members at an Aug. 6 celebration. Banquet reservations may be made now.

Solar car team tests its problem-solving skills this week
After three days of racing and challenges involving overheated battery packs and an unreliable electrical system, Iowa State's student solar car team was still battling today to remain competitive in the 2010 American Solar Challenge. You can read the team's daily update online.

Arts and events

College of Design well represented at Des Moines Arts Festival this weekend
Ten alumni of the College of Design were selected as artists for this year's Des Moines Arts Festival, June 25-27. Two are in the professional artists category; eight, including two May graduates, are in the Emerging Iowa Artists category.

More gnomes arriving every week at Reiman Gardens
The original collection of two dozen 27-inch gnomes at Reiman Gardens, decorated and painted by central Iowa volunteers, gradually is doubling as a second set begins to arrive from more volunteer artists. The little gnomes are scattered throughout the gardens and make for a fun treasure hunt.

Celebrating all things dairy
The ISU dairy farm is celebrating dairy month with an open house on Friday, June 25 (6-11 a.m., ISU dairy farm, 52470 260th St.). Tours, children's activities, displays and free samples are part of the celebration.

Guest carillon concert is June 29
Amy Johansen of the University of Sydney, Australia, opens Iowa State's guest carillon concert series June 29 (7 p.m., central campus).
