Alumni in Iowa are focus of state fair exhibit

A wall with the names of the 97,002 alumni living in Iowa will serve as the backdrop for the university's Iowa State Fair exhibit that features "Adventurous Iowa Staters Making Iowa Greater." The exhibit is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the northeast corner of the Varied Industries Building during the Iowa State Fair, Aug. 7-17.

 

Shimkat named SBDC director

Lisa Shimkat has been named statewide director of the Iowa Small Business Development Center, a program coordinated by the College of Business.

 

Gerontology degree proposals go to regents

The College of Human Sciences hopes to offer master's and doctoral degree programs to meet societal demand and student interest. Final approval of the FY15 university budget also is on the agenda for the Aug. 6 state Board of Regents meeting.

Sunny stop for Team PrISUm

Fans gathered in an Iowa State Center parking lot Saturday to greet solar car teams from around the country and give a boost to the local favorite -- Team PrISUm's car Phaeton.

Video: ISU units participate in homeless assistance effort

Several Iowa State units joined volunteers at the Stand Down for homeless veterans on July 29 in Ames' Brookside Park. The annual event provides services and support to any homeless person.

 

Space mining team finishes strong

The Cyclone Space Mining team placed first in design and innovation, and finished second in mining at the July 21-25 robotics competition in Hawaii.

The "VISIONS Across America" exhibit, featuring stories and photos from alumni in all 50 states, closes Aug. 9 at the Brunnier Museum.

 

After hours at the Gardens

Live music, food and drinks will be available during Reiman Gardens' After Hours event on Friday, Aug. 8 (4:30-7 p.m.). Tickets are $8 ($4 for members and ISU students). Guests must be 21 or older to attend; preregistration by phone (4-8981) or online is encouraged.
