ISU shows off cardinal, gold and green at Iowa State
Fair
Iowa State will highlight its
green initiatives at the Iowa State Fair, Aug. 12-22. Fair-goers
will learn how ISU is reducing waste, saving money and creating a more
sustainable future. And, yes, there will be temporary I-State tattoos.
Get a sneak peek at Hach Hall
ISU's chemistry faculty is upbeat about the opportunities the newly
constructed Hach Hall will bring to their department and the
university. The building opens Aug. 23.
'E-cycling' saves landfills, dollars
Iowa State's "Green Your Scene" efforts have kept nearly 11 tons of electronics
from littering landfills, and also has saved the university some
money along the way.
Regents meeting on campus this week
A 400-seat auditorium teaching facility, additional research space for
the new horticulture greenhouses, a new undergraduate degree for the
College of Design and a customized computer system for C6 are among ISU agenda
items when the state Board of Regents meets Aug. 5 in the MU Sun
Room. The public meeting begins at 8:30 a.m.
Campus dining attains traylessness
Two longstanding fixtures in college dining rooms, cafeteria-style
lines and dining trays, have been eliminated from ISU Dining's three residential dining centers.
65 approved for RIO3 retirement plan
Officials recently updated P&S Council on the RIO3 retirement
plan, searches for a veterinary medicine dean and a vice president
for extension and outreach, and the promising enrollment outlook for
fall.

New website is hub for research participation opportunities
ISU research teams in need of volunteer human subjects for their
studies have a new recruiting
tool. The Vice Provost for Research and Economic Development
website now includes a corner for such postings.
ISU design, computer science receive $50,000 grant
The College of Design and department of computer science will use a $50,000
grant from the Motorola Foundation to host a yearlong game
development competition for ISU students majoring in design,
technology, communication and business disciplines.

Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture
A deadline reminder (Aug. 16) for Leopold Center's competitive grant
program, a Volkswagen Jetta powered by home-made biodiesel and
research about winter cereal grains and forage legumes as profitable
crop options for farmers, are some of the stories in the Leopold Center's August e-newsletter.

semester. The art lending open house is Aug. 10-11 in the Memorial
