City council turns down Campustown developer request
The Ames City Council declined
Tuesday night to extend an agreement with the developer that has
been working on plans to revitalize Campustown. Council members
expressed doubt that the city, university and developer eventually would
arrive at an agreement on the proposed plan.
Regents name committee to search for next president
Meeting last week, the state Board of Regents named the
search committee for Iowa State's next president, approved a list
of core qualities they'll seek in ISU's next leader and ratified a
letter of understanding with the executive firm that will assist in
the search.
Blissful commute
Charles Schwab says his summer
commute to campus on a Segway is fun and stress-free.
University closed July 4 for holiday
Summer classes will not meet and university offices will be closed
Monday, July 4, to observe the national Independence Day
holiday. Several heavily used university
facilities will close or alter their hours that day as well.

Support structure for football scoreboard lifted into
place
Construction crews raised the 357,000-pound football
videoboard support structure above the Jacobson Athletics Building
in the early morning hours Wednesday.
ISU research could be used to build, test levees
Iowa State research that develops better technologies for constructing
more stable roadbeds and building foundations could be used to
build and test river levees.

Gardens' wine fest is July 8
Nine Iowa wineries will offer tastings, and two area food vendors will
have meat, cheese and chocolate samples during Reiman Gardens' Midsummer
Wine Fest after hours on July 8 (6-8:30 p.m., Reiman
Gardens). Live music will complement the evening's
festivities. Tickets are $12-$18 in advance, or $20 at the door;
registration is available online for members
and the public.
