Handbook changes spark senate debate
Modifications to language in the Faculty Handbook's promotion and
tenure voting procedures generated lengthy discussion at the Oct. 16
Faculty Senate meeting.
FAQ, forums offer details on presidential research
initiative
A new online FAQ and a couple of forums should prove useful to
those seeking funding through the new Presidential Initiative for
Interdisciplinary Research. The FAQ provides details on the initiative
to support new, large-scale interdisciplinary research programs. The
first forum is today, Oct. 18.
Fall round of career fairs wraps up this week
On-campus career
fairs this fall drew record numbers of recruiters and student
participants.

Call for artists for 2013 sculpture exhibition in
gardens
Proposals are due Nov. 1 for a 2013 sculpture exhibition planned at
Reiman Gardens. From late April through late October, "Iowa,
Naturally" (PDF) will feature 10-15 outdoor sculptures interpreted
from or inspired by plants, insects and nature -- and will be created by
artists with Iowa ties.
New track surface installed at Lied center
The first floor of the Lied Recreation Center reopened this week with a
state-of-the-art track
surface.

Dance Scholarship Gala Concert is Oct. 20
Orchesis I student dancers, local dance artists and international guest
artists will perform in the annual Dance Scholarship Gala Concert Oct.
20 (7 p.m., 196 Forker). The featured dancer is San Francisco-based
Chris Black of POTRZEBIE Dance Project. Tickets, $10 (balcony) and $5
(bleachers), may be purchased at the door. All proceeds go to the ISU
Dance Scholarship, which benefits performing arts dance emphasis majors
and dance minors.
Life-size butter Cy to be sculpted next week
As part of the 100th Homecoming celebration, the Iowa State Fair's
butter sculptor will create a life-size butter
Cy in a Kildee Hall cooler next week. Visitors can watch the
sculpting process Oct. 22-26 (9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.) in the Kildee atrium.
The cooler's viewing window will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily
(Oct. 22-26) and 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27.
Gear up for ghouls and goblins
Spooky
spirits your thing? Then be sure to check out this year's "Haunted
Iowa State" on Oct. 24 (7 p.m., campanile). For a more kid-friendly
outing, attend Reiman Gardens' "Spirits in the Gardens" Oct. 20-21 (4-7
p.m.). Admission is free and open to the public for "Haunted Iowa
State." Kids 18 and under, members and ISU students may attend "Spirits
in the Gardens" for free; adult admission is $8.
