installed beneath the plaza south of Troxel Hall. The
underground system provides water filtration and runoff
management, while preventing soil compaction that hinders tree
growth in high-traffic areas. Summer enrollment

enrolled in summer session at Iowa State this year. That
represents an increase of 435 students (4 percent) over last
summer's student body of 10,798

seeks comments on proposed guidelines for work in developing
countries The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences seeks
comments and input on a draft set of guidelines for the
work of faculty, staff and students in agricultural development
activities in developing countries. The deadline for submitting
comments is Sept. 1; all comments should be emailed to
cals@iastate.edu. Creek cleanup nets
200-plus pounds of trash More than 50 volunteers
participated in the June 29 annual cleaning of College Creek
where it winds through campus. They hauled out more than 200
pounds of trash -- much of it food containers and plastic
bottles. Researcher to head NSF study in
Iceland ISU geologist Neal Iverson will lead an
international team of researchers on a three-week field study of the
drumlins (hills) exposed by a shrinking glacier in
Iceland. ISU initiative provides outreach to underserved
communities Students in the Design and Human Sciences
colleges will participate in the statewide Iowa Retail Initiative
this fall. The program connects resources and services to rural
communities and businesses.

Gardens
art fair is July 14
Reimans Gardens' 10th annual Garden Art Fair is Sunday, July 14
(9 a.m.-4 p.m.). More than 50 artists from Iowa and Nebraska will
sell their nature-inspired art including jewelry, pottery,
watercolors, woodwork, glasswork and sculpture. Admission is $7 ($6
seniors, $3 youth) and includes access to all of the gardens'
features. Ames businesses Battle's BBQ and Capanna Coffee will sell
lunch items during the art
