Video wall makes big splash at Coover

Meet CyRIS, an interactive video system showcasing the department of electrical and computer engineering in Coover Hall. Much of the content -- and its technological evolution -- will be driven by student projects.


Welcome

The appointment was announced in May and he officially has arrived on campus. On Aug. 1, David Spalding started his new position as the fifth dean of the College of Business.


Council kicks off new academic year

The Professional and Scientific Council gaveled in 2013-14 on Aug. 1, but committee work already is under way.


Step inside interactive art gallery at this year's state fair exhibit

An interactive art exhibit showcasing Iowa State serving Iowans, some impressive trophies, free temporary tattoos and football posters are part of the ISU exhibit in the Varied Industries Building. Elsewhere at the fair, Iowa Staters will oversee 4-H exhibits, run a scavenger hunt, provide info on Iowa's wine industry and see to the health of all those animals.

Open lab for Blackboard Learn

CELT will offer open lab support sessions for faculty, instructors and teaching assistants who need help with Blackboard 9.1 courses. Familiarity with Bb Learn is recommended. Bring your work, and laptop and register online. Open labs are in 1151 Communications (8 a.m.-5 p.m.) on:

Cooler engines is the goal

Iowa State engineers are developing new tests and technologies to cool turbine blades and improve engines for aircraft and power plants.


How to handle fresh produce

Give your fresh produce a shower, rather than a bath advises professor and extension specialist Catherine Strohbehn. You're more likely to wash away potential contaminants if you wash fruits and vegetables under running water and drain, rather than washing in a container of water.
