recommendations The state Board of Regents
approved the FY14 university budget, endorsed recommendations of
a transparency task force and heard a report on ISU's strategic
plan during its Aug. 8 meeting in the Memorial
Union. Growing the
faculty Iowa State has hired 60 tenured or
tenure-track faculty since last
November, more than half of them in targeted areas "critical to
Iowa's economic future," as identified last fall by President
Steven Leath. Water
tight Work on a flood mitigation system of
earthen berms and concrete fortified gateways is wrapping up

transparency officer for Iowa State. The state Board of Regents
this week released the list of newly appointed transparency officers (PDF) at
each of the six regents sites.

campusNurturing an interest in
science Three students from Des Moines' Lincoln High
School worked in Iowa State chemistry labs for eight weeks this
summer to boost their interest -- and confidence -- in their
scientific
abilities. Oh, deer University photographer Bob Elbert
caught a deer snacking on
crabapples near the Communications
Building. Treasures for all Used equipment and
furniture that's been removed from the university's inventory is
sold at weekly ISU Surplus sales in
a university warehouse.
