President to discuss demand for ISU education, new initiatives
President Steven Leath will discuss the unprecedented demand for an Iowa State education and reveal new initiatives to move the university forward during his annual address Thursday evening, Sept. 10.

Four finalists named in VP for diversity and inclusion search
Finalists will make two-day visits to campus this month. The university community is invited to meet them during public forums.

White announces her retirement
College of Human Sciences dean Pam White has announced she will retire in July 2016. A national search for her successor will begin immediately.

Spring tuition increase goes to regents next week
Meeting Sept. 9 in Cedar Falls, the state Board of Regents is expected to vote on a proposed 3 percent spring semester tuition increase for resident undergraduates. Other items on the agenda include a nonprofit global corporation for ISU and FY17 appropriation requests to the state.

Fall food truck options expand to eight
Eight private food vendors are operating at five locations across central campus this semester.

Secretary of the Navy visits campus to name submarine
U.S. Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus was on campus Wednesday to name the Navy's newest submarine the "USS Iowa."

Study looks to slow muscle loss in older adults
Kinesiology professor Rick Sharp is working to slow the progression of sarcopenia -- the loss of muscle mass and strength common in aging adults -- by studying the effectiveness of supplements and resistance training.

NSF awards maximum funding to ISU-based center
The Center for Biorenewable Chemicals has received an additional three years and $8.48 million in grant support from the National Science Foundation, bringing its NSF support to the maximum allowed: 10 years and $35.26 million.

The fall lectures series offers an array of programs that are sure to provide something for everyone.

For your coffee table
At a Sept. 10 book signing, the ISU Alumni Association will unveil SEASONS of Iowa State University, a 128-page showcase of ISU images and stories. The reception, at the ISU Alumni Center, is 4-7 p.m. with a brief program at 5:30 p.m. On hand will be book photographer Jim Heemstra and editor Carole Gieseke.
