Fall facts
On the eve of a new academic year, university relations staff compiled an overview of who's coming, as well as some of the campus improvements since last fall to enhance the student experience.
Overheard during move-in New students moved in this week, with the help of their families, friends and a few hundred members of the move-in crew.
Safe travel on campus: There's an app for that
Anyone concerned about walking on campus at night can summon a free ride via a new Uber-like service -- SafeRide ISU.

Cyclone Fan Fest is Sunday
The annual Cyclone Fan Fest is Sunday, Aug. 21 (noon-2 p.m., Bergstrom Football Complex). Inside the facility will be Cy (bring your camera) and autograph lines featuring football, men's basketball and women's basketball student athletes. Outside activities include interactive stations with the volleyball and tennis teams, inflatable games, face painters, food trucks, Cy's Locker Room retail sales and a Jr. Cyclone Club station. Admission is free.
Portraits of Iowa State
University Museums will add 20 portraits to its collection following the state fair, where Iowa artist Rose Frantzen is painting on site in the university's exhibit. Portrait subjects were selected by colleges and units, and include students, faculty, staff, alumni and other individuals with close ties to Iowa State.
