Key FLSA dates, timelines established
Some employees impacted by the new Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime regulations will receive notices this week. And, university officials have established key dates, timelines and training schedules for supervisors and employees.

Faculty members named to National Academy of Medicine
Distinguished Professor of statistics Alicia Carriquiry and Clarence Hartley Covault Distinguished Professor of Veterinary Microbiology and Preventive Medicine James Roth were named this week to the National Academy of Medicine. They join two previous ISU selections to this academy: former dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Catherine Woteki (1998), and Distinguished Professor of food science and human nutrition Diane Birt (2015).
Going up At the northwest corner of Stange and Pammel roads, the Advanced Teaching and Research Building for the biosciences is about 20 percent complete, with completion on schedule for January 2018.

Homecoming parade is Sunday
Homecoming activities begin in earnest this weekend, including a parade in downtown Ames on Sunday, Oct. 23 (2 p.m.). Many of the events during the weeklong celebration are free and open to the public.
Jack-o'-lantern display debuts at Spirits in the Gardens Reiman Gardens will be aglow this weekend with about 500 jack-o'-lanterns as part of its annual Spirits in the Gardens event, Oct. 22-23 (4-9 p.m. daily, jack-o'-lanterns lit at 6:30 p.m.). Activities include trick-or-treating, storytelling and crafts. Spirits in the Gardens is free for kids under 18 and members. Cost is $8 for adults. Adult volunteers still are needed to carve pumpkins Thursday and Friday (9 a.m.-9 p.m.) at the gardens' maintenance shed.
Dance concert will benefit student scholarship fund ISU Dance's annual Dance Scholarship Gala Concert is Saturday, Oct. 22 (7 p.m., 196 Forker). Performers range from students to professionals. Tickets are $5 and $10; proceeds support scholarships for performing arts (dance emphasis) majors and dance minors.
Library hosts traveling caucus exhibit A traveling exhibit from the state historical museum will be on display in the Parks Library entrance lobby, Oct. 21-Nov. 9. "First in the Nation: Shaping Presidential Politics Since 1972" documents Iowa's caucus history with photos, artifacts and stories.
