FLSA: Employees numbers, training, tools
As the Dec. 1 deadline nears for implementing the new Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime mandates, impacted employees and their supervisors continue training, and university human resources has developed several tools and resources.

ISU Surplus' liquidation auction is Nov. 30
Trombones, drums, a piano and boxes of antique vacuum tubes will join ISU Surplus' usual products in a special auction intended to reduce inventory in advance of a move.

University statement on immigration concerns
In a Nov. 16 statement, university officials recognized many students' anxiety about potential changes in immigration laws and offered support and resources to those concerned about their status at Iowa State.  

No 'Inside' next week
Inside Iowa State will not publish next week (Nov. 24) due to the Thanksgiving holiday. The next issue will publish on Dec. 1.

Presidential funds support two new internal research programs
The Office of the Vice President for Research has launched two internal funding programs to advance cutting-edge research. A seed grant program ($30,000-$50,000 annually per award) will support early-stage interdisciplinary research, and an instrumentation cost-sharing program (up to $100,000) will help build Iowa State's research infrastructure. Applications for both are due Jan. 9, 2017.

Plenty to cheer about
Get out of the house and into the stadium. There are several Cyclone athletics teams playing home games in the next two weeks, including some with big ticket discounts.

Holiday train returns to Reiman Gardens Nov. 18
The RG Express holiday train will chug through Reiman Gardens' conservatory Nov. 18 through Jan. 8, 2017. The display, which debuted last year, includes scaled replicas of several campus landmarks. Reiman Gardens is open 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. daily (until 8 p.m. on Thursdays in December preceding Christmas). Admission for those evenings is a donation of nonperishable food for Mid-Iowa Community Action. Regular admission applies to all other days (admission is free the second Wednesday of the month).
