Nursing degree gets senate approval
A bachelor's of science in nursing and a higher transfer GPA requirement were among the items passed at the March 7 Faculty Senate meeting. A proposal to raise the undergraduate communication proficiency grade requirement was introduced and will be voted on next month.

Representation areas are in place for council elections
The 2017-18 Professional and Scientific Council officers are in place and representation areas are set for the general election, which begins Friday.

Extension director accepts Ohio State post
Vice president for extension and outreach Cathann Kress has been named vice president for agricultural administration and dean of the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at Ohio State University, effective May 1.

Dakota Access funds farmland research
Iowa State researchers will conduct a five-year project that studies the impact of pipeline construction on crop production and soil compaction. Researchers began collecting initial data last fall on university-owned farmland near Ames. The project, which will collect data through 2021, is funded by Dakota Access, Houston, Texas.

Celebrate the Irish
These St. Patrick's Day-related events are coming up:
  • Reiman Gardens' After Hours on March 17 (5-8 p.m.) will be Irish-themed. Enjoy Celtic music by the Blue Moon Players, a baked potato bar, dessert and a cash bar. All guests must be at least 21 years old. Cost is $22 (members $17) for those who preregister through March 10, or $28 at the door for all.
  • Irish tenor Michael Londra and his band, Celtic Fire, will perform at Stephens Auditorium on March 20 (7:30 p.m.). The performance features songs, stories, tunes and dance. Tickets, $25-$55, are available at the Iowa State Center ticket office or through Ticketmaster.
