Crackdown coming on street parking near campus
Ames police are hiring more parking officers so they can begin patrolling for street parking regulations in Campustown starting this fall.  Previously, enforcement of time limits and alternating side rules came only in response to complaints.

Replica G-Nomes built to last are installed on Molecular Biology
The 12-foot sculptures that stand at the corners of the building's roof were replaced this week, aluminum replicas taking the place of the damaged originals.

Full-time university ombuds officer starts on Aug. 7
Deanna Clingan-Fischer currently serves as the the state of Iowa's long-term care ombudsman.

Marcketti named to CELT post
Sara Marcketti, professor of apparel, events and hospitality management and CELT associate director, has been named interim director of the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching, effective this week.

A new strategy for student financial literacy
The state's three public universities will ask their freshman and transfer students to complete a four-week online financial education course this year. At Iowa State, it's called Cyclone CashCourse.

Improvement projects, FY18 budget are on the regents' August agenda
Meeting telephonically Aug. 2, the state Board of Regents is expected to approve the FY18 budget and remodeling plans for Vet Med and Sukup Hall, and receive updates on the ISU president and board executive director searches.

Iowa State, DMACC partner on Iowa Cyber Hub
With the goal of increasing the number of cyber security professionals in Iowa, Iowa State and the Des Moines Area Community College created a partnership this week to establish the Iowa Cyber Hub.

Change agent
Vet Med's Suzanne Millman is an applied ethologist, a specialty more common in animal science departments than veterinary medicine colleges. Applying scientific methods to animal welfare issues for more precise measures of animal contentment is the focus in this latest installment of Iowa Staters whose work changes the world for the better.

Making safety suits safer to wear
An interdisciplinary research team in the College of Human Sciences is improving the health of those who wear protective clothing by analyzing the physiological strain and physical burden the safety gear causes. 

New video series showcases aquaponics
Extension and outreach specialist Allen Pattillo created a nine-piece video series, one to five minutes long each, on constructing and using an aquaponics system, in which the waste from farmed fish supplies nutrients for plants grown without soil.
