Recaps of the presidential candidates' campus forums
Four presidential finalists are presenting their vision for Iowa State and answering questions during public forums that are part of their campus visits this week. Three are complete:
The forum for the final candidate, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences dean Wendy Wintersteen, is 4-5 p.m. today (Oct. 12) in the Memorial Union Great Hall. A recap of her forum will be posted Friday morning to Inside Iowa State.
Regents opt to delay 2018-19 tuition discussion
Input sought on student onboarding procedures A committee studying procedures intended to help first-time students transition to living and learning at Iowa State is asking for faculty and staff feedback at two open forums next week.
Workshops offer intro to Workday A series of workshops will introduce and demonstrate features of the Workday software system being developed for university-wide use by all employees.

Prof helps plan preservation of modern Roman masterpiece
Follow Team PrISUm The Iowa State student solar car team began its north-to-south trek across Australia Oct. 8 as an entrant in the 1,900-mile Bridgestone World Solar Challenge. Follow the team's progress on a College of Engineering website.
Award-winning ISU research, outreach poised to combat opioid misuse
Iowa State researchers, led by Richard Spoth, director of the Partnerships in Prevention Science Institute, are battling America's health challenges, including opioid misuse, through the ISU-developed PROSPER model.

An evening with the stars
Learn about the night sky above Ames during the next ISU Planetarium show, Oct. 13. Show times are 6:30 p.m. (for kids pre-K through elementary school) and 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. (all ages). Admission is free but tickets are required and available at the door beginning at 6:15 p.m. Seating is limited. An outdoor observation session will follow the last show, weather permitting.
Basketball tipoff event is Friday Hilton Madness will give fans a preview of the Cyclone basketball teams on Friday, Oct. 13 (7 p.m., doors open at 6:30 p.m., Hilton Coliseum). The event features men's and women's basketball player introductions, NCAA banner drops, 3-point shooting contest and scrimmages. Admission is free, but student-athletes will collect canned food and cash donations on the concourse for their Cy Cans food drive.
Manatt-Phelps lecture is Oct. 18
MSNBC anchor and business correspondent Ali Velshi will discuss the impacts of the Trump administration's domestic and international policy shifts when he presents the Manatt-Phelps Lecture in Political Science Oct. 18 (8 p.m., MU Great Hall). Previously, Velshi worked for the Al Jazeera America and CNN cable networks. He wrote "Gimme My Money Back" and co-authored "How to Speak Money" with former CNN colleague and Iowa State alumna Christine Romans.

CELT programming: Canvas workshops
All spring semester courses that use ISU's central learning management system will be taught in Canvas. Access to Blackboard will be turned off Jan. 5, 2018. CELT staff will lead five 90-minute Canvas workshops multiple times this fall that highlight the pedagogy and mechanics behind Canvas functions. Below is the next week's worth.
