Summer is 'go' time
Here's a quick look at some of the significant building and road projects around campus, planned around a smaller student population during summer session.

Move-in underway at new biosciences building
A major upgrade of biosciences facilities years in the making is nearly complete. Faculty have started moving their offices and labs into the new $57.5 million Advanced Teaching and Research Building, the second part of an $88 million project that also included the addition to Bessey Hall that opened last fall.

A look at who's coming to campus this summer
Iowa State hosts a wide variety of visitors throughout the summer. Here are the events expected to draw 100 people or more.

Around campus
Students tackle looming issue of crowded cemeteries
Design associate professor Carlton Basmajian developed a course that asks students to study the land-use implications of cemeteries and burial. This spring, the class provided options for Perry's Violet Hill Cemetery.

Student teams are ready to compete
The Cyclone Space Mining team is competing at NASA's Robotic Mining Competition this week, and the Cyclone Power Pullers are putting the finishing touches on their quarter-scale tractor for a June competition.

Take a look at travel opportunities
You don't have to be an Iowa State alum to see the world with the Traveling Cyclones. The alumni association's 2019 trips and tours will be announced May 24 (4:30-6:30 p.m., Alumni Center). The event is free and open to the public; registration is requested.

Professional development
Provost office: Professional development funds for term faculty
The office of the senior vice president and provost has funds to support professional development of lecturers/senior lecturers, clinicians/senior clinicians and adjunct faculty. Faculty may apply for up to $500 to participate at a professional conference, workshop or training. Applications are particularly encouraged from faculty without access to departmental professional development support. Applications are due June 1 for events taking place between July 1 and Dec. 31. More information is online. Abstracts for conference presentations need not have been accepted at the time of the funding request.
