IPERS contribution rate to increase in July
Employees whose retirement plan is through the Iowa Public Employees' Retirement System will see an increase in their contribution rate in July.

Marcketti to lead teaching center
Sara Marcketti, who has served as interim director of the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching since July, has been appointed director.

Campus tour features public art often overlooked
The June version of the monthly art walk hosted by university museums will explore elements of the art on campus collection that are hidden in plain sight, including a piece people step on every day.

Newest garden slated for late fall completion
Reiman Gardens' Sycamore Falls will contain both: cascading water and sycamore trees. Construction began last month.

Gardens open house for employees is June 15
Reiman Gardens will host an open house with free admission for ISU employees on Friday, June 15 (noon-6 p.m.). Free admission doesn't apply to family members or to ISU retirees. Enjoy more than 800 live butterflies from around the globe in the butterfly wing (open until 4:30 p.m.) and the display in the tropical Hughes Conservatory, explore 17 acres of outdoor gardens, experience 13 kinetic sculptures that move in the wind and play with the light, and browse the gift shop.

Lakeside research facility inspires art
Seven artists in residence are at the Iowa Lakeside Laboratory, West Okoboji Lake, this summer, working to bridge the gaps between science, art and nature.

Studying ancient volcanoes helps understand active ones
By researching the graves of ancient eruptions, Sven Morgan hopes to improve understanding of active volcanoes like Hawaii's Kilauea. The professor and chair of geological and atmospheric studies solidified magma chambers far beneath the surface of continents.

Tour the dairy farm June 8
The ISU Dairy Farm is celebrating dairy month with its annual open house June 8 (6-11 a.m., 52470 260th St., south of Ames). The free event includes tours, dairy food samples, demonstrations and displays.
