Salary increases for most employees will come in two parts
Faculty and P&S staff with satisfactory work evaluations will receive a two-part salary increase in the fiscal year that begins July 1 -- an initial 1% increase on July 1, a second 1% on Oct. 1. All merit employees will receive a 2.1% increase on July 1 consistent with the state contract.

Workday go-live will be phased
Improved service delivery specialists and central offices will have access to Workday July 1, with campuswide rollout early July 2.

Search to begin for next registrar
Senior associate registrar Jennifer Suchan is serving as interim university registrar, effective June 17.

'No better satisfaction': Advising student orgs can be a rewarding sideline
Required faculty-staff advisers provide student organizations a built-in mentor and liaison, offer a measure of oversight and, hopefully, give the employee serving as an adviser a gratifying chance to mentor learning leaders.

Morrill Road-Union Drive corner to close for reconstruction
Failing pavement in a heavily used intersection will require a 5-6 week closure to reconstruct the roadway. Both roads will be closed to through traffic beginning July 8.

New unit will integrate communications, marketing, public relations
The newly named office of strategic relations and communications replaces the office of university relations, effective July 3.

Student Formula racers hope to improve on top-10 finish
After finishing eighth among 22 scored teams earlier this month at a competition in Barrie, Ontario, Canada, Iowa State's Formula SAE race team will compete in the Formula SAE competition in Lincoln, Nebraska, June 19-22.

Study may show why antioxidant loses battle against toxic protein
New research may explain why an antioxidant that protects the brain also is associated with deterioration in areas susceptible to Alzheimer's disease.

Biochar fertilizer could protect water quality
Researchers have found biochar could be a slow-release fertilizer that delivers nutrients to crops while keeping those nutrients from washing away in the rain or leaching into groundwater.

Arts and events
Pollinator Fest at the gardens
Reiman Gardens will observe National Pollinator Week with free admission all day for its Pollinator Fest Saturday, June 22 (10 a.m.-2 p.m.). Educational displays and activities for all ages will be presented by area experts, groups and organizations.
