Summer programs give undergraduates intense intro to research
Numerous summer programs bring undergraduates from other schools to campus to work on ongoing research projects with Iowa State faculty. The deep and often new immersion in research helps prepare students for a possible path toward graduate school.

New rec fields will provide options for intramural, club sports
Construction on two fields used by recreation services has either been completed or will be by next fall. The fields provide more options for intramural and club sports.

Overhauled originals back overhead
Reinstalling Curtiss Hall's newly refurbished stained-glass skylights this week, one of the final pieces of the third-floor renovation project, should increase the visibility of the often-overlooked adornment.

Brunnier Art Museum staff prepare for September reopening
A $1.95 million renovation of the Brunnier Art Museum is nearly complete following a 20-month closure for planning and construction. The transformation will be celebrated at a public reception on Sept. 19.

Buyers repurpose 58 tons of furniture, housewares at ramp sale
The 4th annual Rummage RAMPage kept 116,424 pounds of furniture and housewares out of the landfill, an increase of 14,000 pounds from 2018. Twenty-two nonprofits provided more than 1,200 volunteer hours to staff the sale.

Study shows why exercise may help with depression
Jacob Meyer, assistant professor of kinesiology, and his research team found a link between endocannabinoid levels, mood and exercise that could lead to better treatment options for depression.

Greenlee Summit to focus on civility
With the Iowa caucuses approaching, the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication's second annual summit has invited local, regional and national media professionals to discuss civility in our democracy. The summit will be held Sept. 5-6; registration is requested by Aug. 23.

State Fair pitch contest taps winners this weekend
More than 150 Iowa State entrepreneurs have been pitching startup ideas at the university's Iowa State Fair exhibit for the past week. On Friday and Saturday, semifinalists face off. President Wendy Wintersteen and senior vice president and provost Jonathan Wickert will present awards, including a $5,000 top prize, in a ceremony at the exhibit Sunday at 1 p.m.
