The continued burning in the Amazon rainforest to clear land may have many consequences. In an essay for The Conversation, an ISU faculty member believes one of the biggest is the lost medicinal value that could come from the plants being removed.

ISU study finds that the money spent on advertising and strategies used by beer companies appear to impact underage drinking.

An Iowa-based software and data management company owned and run by an alumnus will donate $3 million toward the expansion of the Gerdin Business Building. The $28 million addition is scheduled for completion next fall.

Arts and events
The RG Express holiday train exhibit in the Hughes Conservatory features an Iowa State-themed landscape created with natural materials. It opens Sunday, Nov. 24 (9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.); garden admission rates apply. Reiman Gardens is closed Thanksgiving Day.

CyHawk challenge continues Sunday
The Cyclone and Hawkeye wrestling squads compete in their annual dual meet Sunday, Nov. 24 (2 p.m., Hilton Coliseum). Tickets are $25 ($15 youth). Cyclone fans are encouraged to don red for the afternoon.

Treat your holiday houseguests
If you're looking for more out-of-the-house options Thanksgiving weekend, the Cyclone women's basketball team hosts University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Friday, Nov. 29 (6:30 p.m.) and University of New Orleans Sunday, Dec. 1 (1 p.m.). The Cyclone volleyball team is home against Texas Saturday, Nov. 30 (4 p.m.). Basketball tickets are $10-$12 (youth $5-$6); volleyball tickets are $5.
