Inside Iowa State for faculty and staff

Update: COVID-19
A snapshot of our vaccinated students
Strong evidence suggests a higher vaccination rate currently among ISU students compared to the rate for Story County. This week, a random, anonymous and statistically valid sample of in-state students indicated that 72.3% are fully vaccinated, with a margin of error of 4.5 percentage points. This compares to vaccination rates of 60.3% in Story County (those eligible for a vaccine) and 49.2% of Iowa's total population. Statewide, 40% of 18- and 19-year-olds and 41% of 20- to 29-year-olds are fully vaccinated. While similar data for out-of-state students is unavailable, university leaders believe the vaccination rate for those students would not be substantially lower than in-state students.

Vaccinations on campus
As of Sept. 2, 459 doses of vaccine have been administered in fall-semester campus vaccine clinics. More than 7,500 people have been vaccinated on campus since December 2020, representing more than 12,700 doses.

Positivity rate
As of Sept. 3, the updated seven-day positivity rate on campus is 6.28% (14 positives out of 223 tests). The COVID-19: By the Numbers website is updated every Wednesday with campus testing results from the previous week.
With upward ticks on the positivity rate since the semester's start, and recognizing positive individuals are among us in the community, the following Cyclones Care behaviors should continue to be front of mind:
  • Vaccinate
  • Monitor your health
  • Stay home if you're ill
  • Wash your hands often

Free at-home tests
As noted in a Sept. 2 Inside Iowa State story, at-home COVID-19 PCR test kits are available at four campus locations:
  • Thielen Student Health Center: front desk, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays except Wednesdays (9 a.m.-5 p.m.)
  • Memorial Union: information desk, second floor near Cardinal Room, staffed all MU hours
  • Union Drive Community Center: mailroom, across from Clyde's, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday, Saturdays 1-5 p.m.
  • College of Veterinary Medicine: room 2270, office of academic and student affairs, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
