New facilities teams will enhance efficiency and service

Cross-functional service teams combining expertise from multiple areas each will serve a portion of campus, rather than siloed functions serving all of campus. The change will come in phases and may take up to a year to complete.


University billing transitions to Workday

The last U-Bill generated in AccessPlus for students, employees and external customers will be on July 1. The billing for Aug. 1 will mark the first time it's generated in Workday.


David Spalding, Rick Sanders named to interim roles

Effective July 1, Spalding will serve as interim senior vice president for operations and finance and Sanders will serve as interim vice president for economic development and industry relations. The appointments follow Heather Paris' decision to return full-time to her position in finance services as the new fiscal year begins.


New unit will help grow Workday capabilities

Staff in a new Office of Student Information will help the university get the most from its investment in Workday by leading continuous improvement initiatives from configuration to implementation.


Deadline for digital accessibility moves up

Due to updated regulations in the Americans with Disabilities Act, public entities' web content and mobile apps must be accessible and compliant by April 24, 2026. Making sure all courses satisfy the regulations will be an important task for departments and instructors between now and the deadline.


App scrubbing precedes sign-on dashboard move to Microsoft

As part of the university's commitment to using a single enterprise system, the sign-on dashboard and multifactor authentication will move from Okta to Microsoft by late summer. A related change is that an individual's full ISU email address -- not just Net-ID -- will become the sign-in standard. 


Regents approve CYTown agreements

Last week the state Board of Regents also approved tuition and fees for fall, an FY25 salary policy for merit employees, president's salary increase and a market adjustment to the pay matrix for P&S employees.

Around campus

Third cohort named for research leader training

Faculty from all seven academic colleges and the Ames National Laboratory make up the 2024-25 cohort of the Research Collaboration Catalysts program hosted by the office of the vice president for research. During eight sessions with content experts, participants learn about building and leading high-functioning, interdisciplinary research teams. The program is held every other year.


Chasing storms for credit

With their instructors, the 13 Iowa State students in "Field Observations of Thunderstorms" crisscrossed the nation's "Tornado Alley" for eight turbulent days in May. They found storms, collected data and shared information with national forecasters.


Anticipating the maiden sculptures

On the Memorial Union north lawn this month, a new fountain and basin are getting tested in anticipation of the return of the Fountain of the Four Seasons limestone and terra cotta sculpture in early August.


Four research projects funded from March roundtable

The spring research and innovation roundtable gathered faculty who focused on issues related to community vitality. Following it, four multidisciplinary projects received seed grants from strategic plan funds.


New alumna earns scholastic award

Spring graduate Victoria Kyveryga will begin a Ph.D. program at Stanford this year as part of the Knight-Hennessy program, which aims to develop an interdisciplinary community of future global leaders to address the world's complex challenges.

  • Megan Myers, associate professor of Spanish, to chair of the department of world languages and cultures, five-year term effective July 1

Events

Show some love to College Creek

Volunteers will meet Saturday, June 22 (10 a.m.-2 p.m), for an annual spruce-up of several campus sections of College Creek. Check-in starts at 9:30 a.m. in the Forker Building parking lot, and volunteers may work as long as their schedules allow. Wear close-toed shoes and dress for the weather; supplies and refreshments are provided.


Cyclone representatives at Des Moines festival

A half dozen College of Design students and alumni are among 190 professional and emerging artists selected to participate in the Des Moines Arts Festival Friday-Sunday, June 28-30 (Western Gateway Park, downtown, 11 a.m.-10 p.m.; until 5 p.m. Sunday). Enjoy live music, food vendors and art activities; admission is free.


Enjoy lilies?

Reiman Gardens will host the Iowa Regional Lily Society's annual lily show on Saturday, June 29. Judging is in the morning and the show opens to the public at noon. Visitors pay gardens admission.
