Campus visits begin July 11 for operations/finance candidates

Finalists in the search for the next senior vice president for operations and finance will visit campus this month. Their names will be shared the day before each arrives and they'll hold forums with division employees.


Internships, online courses shape summer enrollment

Winter session opportunities also are impacting students' summer decisions about school and work.


Second-year investment advances 12 strategic plan projects

An additional $2.1 million has been awarded to 12 projects selected a year ago for their potential to advance the plan. The other seven projects funded last year are complete or nearly complete.


Additional general classrooms receive upgrades this summer 

Collaborating on classroom and technology upgrades makes renovation projects more efficient. Two of the bigger projects this summer are renovating an auditorium in Agronomy Hall and right-sizing about 30 smaller classrooms.


Five questions with a coach who develops strong Cyclones

Strength and conditioning coach Ben Durbin devises individual plans for the approximately 100 student athletes he works with in the Olympic sports. He is their main connection to their sport during the summer.


Reiman Gardens director will start Aug. 1

Alumna Christine Prescott-Jacobsen, who served for six years as education director at Omaha's Lauritzen Gardens, will oversee operations at Iowa State's 17 acres of gardens.


Two faculty will work abroad on Fulbright awards

Professor of English John Levis and associate professor of world languages and cultures Elisa Rizo each will do research projects at European universities during spring semester 2025.

Arts and events

Garden Art Fair is July 14

More than 80 area artists will sell their work during Reiman Gardens' annual art fair on Sunday, July 14 (10 a.m.-4 p.m.) Find items in jewelry, watercolor, glass, metal, pottery, wood, photography and more. All gardens admission prices are reduced $2 for fair goers (free admission for members and ISU students).


Prairie Field Day set for July 16

The Horticulture Research Station north of Ames will host an inaugural Prairie Field Day on Tuesday, July 16 (12:30-4 p.m.). It features guest experts and tours of three prairie projects, including a piece of remnant (original) prairie. Long pants and boots are recommended; registration is required and closes July 9.


Additional shows added to Goldfinch concert series

Three Des Moines-based acts will join the small-concert series in the Celebrity Cafe at Stephens Auditorium this summer. Shows are Tuesdays, July 16 (7 p.m.) and Aug. 20 (6:30 p.m.). Tickets are $5 online in advance, $10 at the door.
