It's official: The College of Health and Human Sciences

The state Board of Regents approved the name today for the college. Health insurance premiums for 2025, Iowa State's second "degree of the future" and a familiar name to put on the Administrative Services Building also received a final green light.


Search begins for next Business dean

Nominations may be submitted to one of the search committee co-chairs, Veterinary Medicine dean Dan Grooms and associate provost for academic programs Ann Marie VanDerZanden.


They harness data to strengthen the student experience

The office of assessment, research and divisional effectiveness in the Student Affairs division uses campus data to guide improvements to student programs and services and help units achieve their goals.


On-campus counseling appointments available to employees

Melanie Clark is the employee assistance professional who's coming to campus twice a week -- Mondays and Fridays -- for in-person counseling sessions with employees or their family members.

A strategy to keep electric vehicles running 

Electrical and computer engineering professor Zhaoyu Wang is leading a group of researchers who will study electric vehicle charging stations. The goal is to develop strategies and technologies to keep the chargers operating, even when storms hit and the power goes out.


Could more Iowa farmers stick with soybeans?

An Iowa State research team is studying the practice of growing continuous soybeans in Iowa, a practice traditionally discouraged. Researchers are trying to determine the yield penalty that could occur after a few years and the impact on the environment. 


Energy leaders survey progress at solar farm

The U.S. Department of Energy's chief of staff praised Iowa State's research at the Alliant Energy Solar Farm for its attention to detail while collecting data on using land for both agricultural and solar energy production.

Arts and events

Cyclones back on the gridiron

The 20th-ranked Iowa State football team returns from a bye week Saturday to host Arkansas State (1 p.m., Jack Trice Stadium) in the final nonconference game of the regular season. Resale tickets are available. 


Local food and free samples

The Local Food Festival returns to central campus Wednesday, Sept. 25 (9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.). The free event features educational displays, recipe samples using freshly picked produce from the Horticulture Research Station, and area vendors and student organizations selling products locally grown or produced.
