Payroll timing changes next week for salary nonexempt staff
Beginning Oct. 1, staff and postdoctoral scholars in salary nonexempt positions will change to hourly nonexempt and be paid twice a month. The base pay of impacted individuals won't change.
Rural economy, state businesses would benefit from new state funds
Iowa State will seek nearly $11.8 million in additional appropriations from the state in the year that begins July 1, 2025. Seven requests focus on the two service needs.
Iowa State Safe, trainings promote safety on campus
The app -- which has more than 8,000 downloads -- is designed for quick, easy access to the most used campus resources. Campus units are asked to consider annual safety trainings -- or when they add faculty or staff.
More frequent oral cleanings are an option for some
Delta Dental's plan allows participants with certain health conditions to receive two additional teeth cleanings, at no additional cost, during the plan year.

Celebrating excellence
On Wednesday, the campus community celebrated more than 60 individual and team recipients of Iowa State's 2024 awards for faculty and staff.
First semester for accredited culinary program
In May, the Research Chefs Association unanimously approved Iowa State's culinary food science program, elevating it nationally and concluding a 22-month process. The recognition means students completing the major have the skills, knowledge and experiences they need to contribute and excel in the industry.
Expanding wine production and quality
Food science and human nutrition assistant professor Aude Watrelot leads a group studying the challenges to regional wine production. The goal is to identify practices that can handle changing growing conditions and make growing wine grapes more viable in all parts of the country.
Haircuts in an unlikely place
ClipDarts is a national not-for-profit that promotes mental wellness through free haircuts. A partnership between Student Health and Wellness and University Library will bring the service to Parks Library four times this semester. The first was this week.

"Twisters" under the night sky
The Friday, Sept. 27, showing of Cyclone Cinema's "Twisters" will be outdoors on central campus (8 p.m., campanile south lawn) Admission is free. Thursday, Saturday and Sunday shows are in 101 Carver (7 p.m.)
Sixteen hours of music
Stephens Auditorium is hosting the first Goldfinch Room Reunion Festival Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 28 (noon-9 p.m.) and Sept. 29 (11:30 a.m.-7 p.m., Stephens courtyard). Over two days, enjoy 11 performances by 16 solo artists and three duos who are alumni of Stephens' Goldfinch Room stage. Festival passes vary from $30 (one day) to $160 (two-day VIP).
Cyclones host Mountaineers in Big 12 Conference opener
The Iowa State volleyball team opens conference play by hosting West Virginia on Saturday (2 p.m., Hilton Coliseum). Faculty and staff may purchase discounted $3 tickets online prior to Saturday for this match; day-of tickets are $5.
