Nursing program announces first 3+1 agreement

Nursing graduates from Des Moines Area Community College can earn a bachelor of science in nursing degree from Iowa State in one year. The 3+1 agreement, which will begin next fall, is designed so nursing graduates can work while earning their bachelor's degree.

Green roof gets an update

As an independent study project, horticulture senior Ben Moss redid the overrun green roof on Horticulture Hall. In addition to grasses and several varieties of sedum, his design features flowering bulbs to provide colorful blooms each spring and fall -- when students are on campus.


Celebrating a century of education

The Child Development Laboratory School is hosting a centennial celebration on Thursday, Oct. 24 (5:30-7:30 p.m., Palmer Building). The lab school educates young children and provides training to ISU students pursuing careers in early childhood education (video story).


The plant balancing act

Genetics, development and cell biology assistant professor Hongqing Guo received a $1.8 million federal grant to study a gene that affects both how plants grow and how they respond to environmental threats. It could lead to crops that are more resilient to challenging conditions.

Arts and events

Regents disability summit is today 

The annual event (9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Memorial Union) is dedicated to promoting awareness and addressing issues related to disability and higher education at Iowa's public universities. Attendance is free.


Homecoming events start Sunday

It's that time of year: Lunch on central campus, Yell Like Hell student performances, recognition for impactful faculty and staff. Homecoming 2024 kicks off Oct. 27 (11 a.m.-1 p.m.) with a free outdoor celebration (but bring a few bucks for a cherry pie).


ISU volleyball faces Wildcats on Sunday

The Cyclone volleyball team hosts Kansas State on Oct. 27 (noon, Hilton Coliseum) in a Big 12 Conference contest. Tickets ($5) are available through Ticketmaster. 


Spooktacular concert is Oct. 30

This free Halloween Eve concert features students playing low brass instruments -- tuba, euphonium, baritone and trombone -- and the Tye Recital Hall organ. It starts at 7:30 p.m. in the recital hall, Estes Music Hall. Can't get there? Watch the livestream.
