Regents approve plan to comply with DEI law

The majority of Iowa State units, programs, positions and spaces comply with the law or were otherwise exempt. Five changes were approved to comply with the law.


Honors program introduces second pathway to graduation

The innovation pathway is designed for honors students not heading to graduate school. In place of an individual, research-focused experience, they'll work in interdisciplinary teams on a yearlong capstone project that tackles a humanitarian challenge.

Three to be honored at Gold Star Hall ceremony

The university community will honor three former students during the annual Gold Star Hall ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 13 (4:15 p.m., MU Great Hall). The honorees all were native Iowans who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country in World War II, Korea and Vietnam, respectively.


Ecology students share their love of science with third graders

A pair of natural resource ecology and management instructors modified a course to enhance their students' skills in science lesson planning and teaching – and get elementary students excited about scientific exploration. 


Challenges women encounter in the trades

Rhetoric and professional communication professor Jo Mackiewicz describes her experiences as a tradeswoman working in a three-person welding shop in Ames in an essay for The Conversation. 


Preparing plants for winter

ISU Extension and Outreach horticulture specialists provide tips and techniques for overwintering less hardy plants to help them survive and flourish in the seasons to come.

Wrestlers grapple with the Cardinal Friday

The sixth-ranked Cyclone wrestling team opens its season with a dual against No. 18 Stanford on Friday (7 p.m., Hilton Coliseum). Fans are asked to wear gold. General admission tickets ($7) are available through Ticketmaster


A musical homecoming

Five professional musicians with ties to Ames or Iowa State will perform at the Ames Town & Gown Alumni Concert on Saturday, Nov. 9 (7:30 p.m., Ames City Auditorium, 520 Sixth St.). Their program includes a mix of solos, duos and trios, including one work written for this occasion. Tickets ($35, students free) are available online, at the door or at Rieman Music and Chocolaterie Stam in downtown Ames.


Train display returns to Reiman Gardens

The RG Express train display returns to Reiman Gardens Nov. 9 for the holiday season. The exhibit includes replicas built in the likeness of some iconic Iowa State buildings. Regular garden admission rates apply.
