Changes to salary threshold for overtime pay are dissolved

A national two-phase increase to the the minimum salary threshold for overtime eligibility announced in April was struck down last week by a federal judge. On Dec. 1, the salary threshold will revert to the pre-July threshold.


Many hands make harvest meal possible

Two campus dining centers served thousands of students a special menu of turkey, ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, individual pies and other homemade selections Wednesday night. It's an undertaking that takes months of planning and the effort of a lot of ISU Dining staff for nearly a week.


Business dean search enters recruitment phase

The search committee developed a position description with input from Ivy College of Business faculty and staff, including feedback received during two listening sessions.


Volunteers sought for prep week student activities

The division of student affairs will host the second iteration of Cy's Finals Frenzy at the start of prep week: Sunday-Tuesday, Dec. 8-10. Faculty and staff volunteers are sought to help the event run smoothly.


High school graduate numbers present a challenge

Iowa's pool of high school graduates will remain relatively stable in the next decade. What's shifting is their interest in attending college and the ethnic makeup of the students.

Art and science at work together in the Student Innovation Center

Sculptor Catherine Widgery narrates a three-minute video about Interface, the public Art on Campus work of art (dichroic glass in the vestibules and LED-lit copper panels suspended above the outdoor courtyard) for the building. Its "not static" components are appropriate, she said, "in a building about creativity, innovation and discovering new boundaries."

Arts and events

Inaugural holiday event at Reiman Gardens

Support local artisans and small businesses at Reiman Gardens' first Holiday Market on Friday, Nov. 22 (2-8 p.m.). Products include artwork, jewelry, home decor, vintage goods and holiday ornaments and cards. Guests are encouraged to pre-purchase their tickets to receive a $2 discount on gardens admission.


Cyclones vs. Bulldogs in Hilton

The intrastate athletic competitions for the winter season get underway this week. One of the few home events features the Drake and Iowa State women's basketball squads on Sunday, Nov. 24 (2 p.m., Hilton Coliseum). Cyclone fans are asked to wear their cardinal gear. Tickets ($10) are available through Ticketmaster.


Holiday houseguests?

The Cyclone volleyball team closes out its regular season with a pair of Big 12 Conference matches on either side of Thanksgiving Day. No. 19 Utah is here Wednesday, Nov. 27; No. 11 Kansas comes to town Friday, Nov. 29. Both matches begin at 5 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum. Tickets ($5) are available through Ticketmaster.
