Registration closes Monday for civics instruction conference
The aim of the half-day event is for participants to learn more about ways to narrow the gaps among our students in civic literacy, skills and disposition -- their willingness to influence government policy.

Preservation Lab keeps past alive for future generations
The staff repairs, replaces, reformats and monitors Parks Library's physical and digital collections. They also help with recovery efforts and special projects.
The origin of that yellow bucket in your lab
Using Tidy Cat litter buckets for lab glass recycling began in 2013 in response to the city's request to the university to help it keep glass out of the Ames waste stream. Cat owners are still supporting it.

Crosspollinating art with science
Dior Kelley, assistant professor of genetics, development and cell biology, challenged College of Agriculture and Life Sciences students last semester to create art that's inspired by science. Prizes were awarded, and all submitted art pieces now are on display in the Dean's Gallery, first floor of Curtiss Hall.
Impactful women
Congratulations to the 12 Iowa State women selected for the Catt Center's 2025 "Women Impacting ISU" calendar. The four students, six staff and two faculty members were honored at a Jan. 22 reception. Copies of the poster calendar are available at several locations, including the Catt Center.
Spring weather in January
Campus services crews grabbed the opportunity this week to prune shrubs, remove leaves and work on other tasks to keep campus looking great.

Tennis team hosts Minnesota
The Cyclone tennis team welcomes Minnesota to the new Iowa State Tennis Facility in the ISU Research Park, 3700 University Blvd., on Sunday, Feb. 2 (11 a.m.) to conclude a three-match homestand, picking up decisive wins last weekend over North Texas and Omaha. Admission is free. Fans should enter the south doors and find seats in the spectator area in the middle of the six courts.
Carver celebration is Monday
The university community will celebrate the third annual George Washington Carver Day in Iowa on Monday, Feb. 3 (5:30 p.m., MU Great Hall, registration begins at 5 p.m.). An ice cream reception follows the program. Another alumnus, Frederick Douglass Patterson, also will be honored, and the 60-voice ensemble, Cantamus, will debut a new spirit song.
