Business dean candidates will visit campus after spring break
Their schedules will include an open forum in the Gerdin Business Building on the first afternoon of their two-day visits. The four candidates' names will be shared one business day before their visits.
Karl Mueller named to lead Ames National Laboratory
A chemist, Mueller has served since 2010 in several posts at the U.S. Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, Washington. He'll start in his new post on June 1.
Consultant makes communication recommendations
One of the recommendations of The Segal Group is to combine the alumni association and the foundation. By April 30, a review committee will deliver a decision to President Wendy Wintersteen on whether to move forward with the recommendation.
Kisch updates P&S Council on facility service teams
In other business, the council elected officers for next year and extended the deadline for council nominations one week, to March 14.
Judge impressed by students' pitch evolution
The evolution of students' expertise and preparation shows judge how entrepreneurship and innovation are being integrated into the landscape at Iowa State.

How Ottumwa found its pride again
A decade ago, Ottumwa, Iowa, was shrinking, in population and pride. With strategic planning guidance from ISU Extension and Outreach, city leaders sought change. The results: a $3 million business facade and streetscape improvement project; 100+ new, affordable apartments; and more than $60 million invested to build a new elementary school and upgrade other educational facilities.
Intern prep program helps actuarial science students
A new program in the Ivy College of Business helps actuarial science students connect with companies before trying to land an internship. Selected students spend 50-60 hours over the course of a semester completing professional development activities such as assisting with projects, job shadowing and networking with actuarial science professionals.

A bit of Ireland comes to the Stephens stage
Irish band Shamrock Tenors, featuring performers from Belfast, vocalists from London's West End, the countries' finest multi-instrumentalists and a champion Irish dancer, stops in Ames Tuesday, March 25 (7 p.m., Stephens Auditorium). Tickets ($30-$60) are available via Ticketmaster.
Founding day celebration is March 26
The Student Alumni Leadership Council's First Year Leadership League is hosting a Wednesday, March 26, State Day event on central campus (11 a.m.-1 p.m.) to celebrate the founding of Iowa State on March 22, 1858. (The actual date falls during spring break week; thus the observation date.) Enjoy carnival activities, food (while supplies last) and a sneak peek of this fall's Homecoming theme. Wear your cardinal and gold gear to celebrate the university's 167th birthday.
