Phased phone migration begins next month

By April 2026, all employees will transition from Cisco Webex to Microsoft Teams Voice for their phone service. Most of us also will switch from using a physical desk phone to a "softphone" -- the Teams Voice software on our computer or mobile device.


Employee 25-Year Club celebrates milestone

Iowa State's 90th 25-Year Club banquet will be held April 14. This spring, the club welcomes 74 new members and honors 45 other faculty and staff for additional service to the university.


Young entrepreneurs in action

Cam Reiman said her ISU courses have been incredible, but the opportunities outside of the classroom are her favorite part of being at Iowa State. Reiman is among the Iowa Staters -- still in school or recently graduated -- who used an innovative idea to expand their education and jump-start entrepreneurial endeavors. Their story is the third in strategic relations and communication's 2025 Innovation at Work series, which illustrates Iowa State's role as a trusted partner to Iowa businesses and industries.


Faculty Senate prepares for busy conclusion to semester

The Faculty Senate discussed 10 pieces of new business and gave final approval to several other items at its April 8 meeting. Two meetings remain this semester.

Two ISU students are Goldwater Scholars

Two College of Liberal Arts and Sciences students received Goldwater Scholarships, the nation's premier undergraduate scholarship in mathematics, sciences and engineering, for the 2025-26 year. They are among 441 scholars selected from more than 5,000 applicants.


Researchers: Know your options to federal publication requirement

Starting in January 2026, authors with federally sponsored projects will need to publicly share their research publications and supporting data immediately and without embargo. University librarians share options with ISU authors for making their funded research available. 


Goldfinch Room songwriter series heads to the gardens

Stephens Auditorium and Reiman Gardens will cosponsor five shows in the Goldfinch Room's Midwest songwriter showcase in the gardens from May to August. Ticket options include a season pass or individual shows.


AI program helps children with learning disabilities 

Genetics, development and cell biology teaching professor Karri Haen Whitmer is developing software that provides artificial intelligence learning companions to school-aged children with learning disabilities. She developed it, in part, in response to experiences her autistic son had in the classroom.


A twin with immense promise

Iowa State researchers are building "digital twins" -- virtual constructs that mimic the structure, context and behavior of a natural system, for example, a corn plant -- that are updated regularly with data from their physical twin. Their usefulness is in their potential to accelerate scientific discovery.

Arts and events

Animal learning event is Saturday morning

Members of the Block and Bridle Club will host their annual Animal Learning Day on Saturday, April 12 (9 a.m.-1 p.m., Hansen Learning Center). Enjoy animal exhibits, educational activities, food samples, and free lunch while it lasts. 


Fashion Show is Saturday night

A student-produced fashion show that's one of the largest in the country returns to Stephens Auditorium Saturday, April 12 (7 p.m.). More than 150 students serve on committees such as public relations, finance, model management, digital media, set design and philanthropy. Tickets ($16-$31) may be purchased online.


First Amendment Days observance: April 14-17

The Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication is hosting its 23rd annual First Amendment Days celebration next week. Enjoy speakers and events that help us understand our protected First Amendment freedoms: religion, speech, press, assembly and petition.


Cy-Hawk softball is Tuesday afternoon

The Cyclone softball team hosts Iowa on Tuesday, April 15 (4 p.m., Cyclone Sports Complex), the last teams to compete in the annual intrastate series. Admission is free.
