An efficient approach to assisting research project teams

Experienced project managers are available for part-time assignments on research teams -- in any field -- that could benefit from the professional help and whose projects aren't yet large enough for a full-time project manager. This central model frees up researchers' time for the pieces they're really good at and will help keep talented project managers at the university.


Changes for Iowa State from the legislative session

The Iowa Legislature approved nearly $1.7 million in new appropriations for Iowa State that focus on the state's agriculture economy. Those increases represent about 15% of the additional state support university leaders first requested last fall.


A peek at the summer construction season

Summer is anything but slow for the professionals in facilities planning and management who oversee campus construction, renovation or road projects. Inside provides a quick look at about a dozen projects starting, finishing or continuing this summer.


Council reviews feedback from P&S constituents

Despite damage, historic maple will remain on campus

Seeds and cuttings from the tree will be gathered to try to cultivate seedlings, which would be planted back on campus.


Research teams receive Bridging the Divide grants

Two research teams received 2025 Bridging the Divide seed grants, an initiative from the vice president for research office designed to spark innovation with interdisciplinary collaborations. One team could enhance future pandemic response and the other will co-develop a wearable technology to assess walking gait abnormalities in real time.


Maximizing the benefits of water treatment wetlands

Ecology, evolution and organismal biology assistant professor Charlie Loewen is studying how best to use wetlands to reduce nitrogen and phosphorus without negatively impacting biological communities within wetlands and immediately downstream.


A link between development and longevity

A biology research team identified how developmental delays lead to longer lifespans in fruit flies, a potential model for exploring human longevity.

Arts and events

Cantamus to perform before international trip

Cantamus, a treble-voice ensemble, will hold a farewell concert on Tuesday, June 3 (7:30 p.m., Tye Recital Hall, Estes Hall) before embarking on a 12-day performing tour to Finland and Sweden. The concert will feature international folk music. Tickets ($10 general admission, students free) can be purchased at the door.


Test your team's trivia knowledge

Reiman Gardens will host the first of three trivia nights on Thursday, June 12 (7-9:30 p.m.). In 10 rounds, teams of four to six will compete for silly prizes while testing their knowledge on topics from nature to sports. Teams may bring their own snacks and beverages. Purchase tickets in advance ($15/person) or at the door ($16).
