Presidential search committee, search firm is set

Iowa Regent JC Risewick and Faculty Senate president Meghan Gillette will co-chair the 12-member committee. Washington, D.C.-based AGB Search will assist with the search for President Wendy Wintersteen's successor.


Welcome, Karl Mueller

Mueller started June 1 in his new role as director of the Ames National Laboratory. He also holds the rank of tenured professor in the chemistry department.


Tuition decision anticipated today at regents meeting

The Iowa Board of Regents also will take action on FY 2026 salary policies for the various employee groups and a proposed 3% market adjustment to the P&S pay grade structure, and conduct performance evaluations with the university presidents and the board's executive director.


Welcome, Brady Talley

Talley is the new director of the Military-Affiliated Student Center. He moves to the Memorial Union from the Ivy College of Business, where he worked in several student success roles.


Dawn Bratsch-Prince reappointed as associate provost for faculty

Effective July 1, the reappointment continues through June 30, 2030. Bratsch-Prince has overseen faculty development and success programs since 2010.


Shannon Foote named acting president of alumni association

Foote, the association's senior vice president of administration, marketing, communications and membership, will oversee the process of combining Iowa State's alumni association and foundation.

Greenlee students will create Ireland content for KCCI in August

Student journalists and faculty will travel to Dublin Aug. 14-25 to cover the Aer Lingus College Football Classic, featuring Iowa State and Kansas State. Their stories will be distributed across KCCI 8 news platforms.


Alumni gift supports equine expansion

A $5 million gift from alumni Scott and Angie State will support the 21,000-square-foot expansion of the large animal hospital at the Lloyd Veterinary Medicine Center for additional clinical services in equine care. The Iowa Board of Regents approved the $14.1 million project last year.


A strategy for stabilizing gravel roads

A civil engineering team is monitoring a field test in rural Buchanan County of a web-like geosynthetic grid designed to improve the stability of gravel roads -- and potentially save counties time and money on road maintenance.


Farming at solar field enjoys success in first year

A large volume of vegetables and attention from across the world were two outcomes in the first of a four-year study on how solar energy production and agriculture can co-exist at the Alliant Energy Solar Farm.

Research shows when the gap between a plea offer and a potential trial sentence is large, many people -- guilty or innocent -- consider taking the deal.


Personality traits impact sleep quality?

Psychology professor Zlatan Krizan's research indicates personality traits affect people's perception and quality of sleep. Individuals who are less stable emotionally and less conscientious not only feel like they sleep poorly -- they actually do.

Events

College Creek cleanup is Saturday

The 14th annual College Creek cleanup is Saturday, June 14 (10 a.m.-2 p.m., registration begins at 9:30 a.m. in parking lot west of Forker Building). Small groups of volunteers will walk through designated sections of the creek and pick up trash. Help for as long as your schedule allows.


Pollinator Fest is June 21 at Reiman Gardens

Celebrate National Pollinator Week -- an annual celebration in support of pollinator health -- with activities and displays at Reiman Gardens and enjoy Pollinator Fest on June 21 (10 a.m.-2 p.m.). Garden admission fees apply ($12 general admission, $6 youth ages 2-12 years, free for members and ISU students).


Guest carillonneur concert is June 24

Hylke Banning, a carillonneur from the Netherlands, performs Tuesday, June 24 (7 p.m.), in the second installment of Iowa State's summer concert series. Bring your blankets or lawn chairs to central campus.
