Flu shot clinic is Oct. 6-17

The free clinic for employees will be in State Gymnasium Monday-Friday (9 a.m.-4 p.m.) each week. A high-dose flu shot will be available on Thursday, Oct. 9 (9 a.m.-1 p.m.).


Dean transition in Graduate College

Bill Graves has stepped down as dean of the Graduate College. Associate dean for student and scholar sucess Heather Greenlee will serve as interim dean.


Share your preferences in October benefits survey

University human resources' next benefits survey with Iowa State employees will be conducted next month, Oct. 7-21. The survey is done every three years.


Redesigned makerspace trainings reduce barriers 

Over the summer Student Innovation Center leaders revamped the training required to work in the eight makerspaces. The goal is to encourage more use of the spaces -- and keep users safe.


Employees with impact

Tuesday's Inside Impact recognizes this year's 70 recipients -- individuals and teams -- of the university's top awards for faculty and staff, in advance of the Sept. 24 public ceremony at which they'll all be honored. See you there.

Iowa farmers' conservation practices shift from year to year

ISU researchers found that from 2015 to 2019, a high number of farmers who adopted two key conservation practices -- cover crops and no-till -- did not continue to use the practices over time. Nearly 20% of farmers who used cover crops in one year didn't use them the following year, and about 13% of no-till adopters discontinued the practice after one year.


Remembering an Iowa State leader

Alumnus Richard Seagrave, who was a member of the chemical engineering faculty from 1966 to his retirement in 2003, died last month in southern Arizona at the age of 89. He also served as department chair (1983-90), interim provost (1999) and interim president (2000-01).


Art faculty exhibition opens next week

More than 50 artworks created in the past two years by 25 faculty from the art and visual culture department are in an exhibition that opens Monday in Gallery 181, College of Design. It runs through Oct. 9.

Our fascination with true crime opens lectures series

Distinguished Professor of sociology and criminal justice Matt DeLisi kicks off a fall true crime lecture series with his presentation, "Our Obsession with Murder: Why True Crime Is So Popular" on Thursday, Sept. 18 (6 p.m., MU Sun Room). In addition to his faculty duties, DeLisi serves as a forensic consultant in criminal cases. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Softball team plays two this weekend

The Cyclone softball team welcomes a pair of Iowa community college teams, Kirkwood (2 p.m., Saturday) and Iowa Central (2 p.m., Sunday) as it continues its fall schedule at the Cyclone Sports Complex. Admission is free.
