Eight semifinalists advance in presidential search

At the conclusion of an Oct. 6 meeting to evaluate applications, the Iowa State Presidential Search Committee announced it will interview eight semifinalists. The position attracted 78 applicants.


Alumni association, foundation combination is complete

Alumni association members still must approve a change to the organization's governance structure, but combining the programs and people of the ISU Foundation and ISU Alumni Association concluded last week. 


Wintersteen, Norton are guests at council meeting

President Wendy Wintersteen and university counsel Mike Norton discussed employee free speech with members of the P&S Council Oct. 2. The conversation centered on employee posts to personal social media accounts.

October is the national Cybersecurity Awareness Month, so it's a good time to review these tips from the IT Services team for protecting your online information.


New employees can submit ID photo online

New hires who submit their photo two business days before their onboarding appointment can pick up their ISUCard at the Employment and Benefits Center when completing their Form I-9 process. Taking a photo on campus remains an option.

Research office announces November roundtable topic

The office of the vice president for research has set a date and topic for its fall Research and Innovation Roundtable: Thursday, Nov. 6 (2-6 p.m., via Zoom), when participants will share ideas on the overarching topic of Building Biosecurity: Protecting Plants from Pests and Pathogens. Registration is open.

Events

Swim, soccer teams compete at home

Following the annual alumni meet Friday, Oct. 10 (5 p.m., Beyer pool), the Cyclone swimming and diving team hosts Nebraska in a dual meet on Saturday (11 a.m.). The University of Kansas soccer team is in town Friday evening for a Big 12 Conference matchup (6 p.m., Cyclone Sports Complex, fans are encouraged to wear gold attire). All three events are free.


Bacon Expo is Saturday

The annual Bacon Expo will be held Saturday, Oct. 11 (11 a.m.-2 p.m., Hansen Agricultural Learning Center), hosted by the student organization of the same name. Tickets are $10 (students $5) at the door while supplies last. Enjoy everything from live pigs to bacon-inspired menu items, education stations and games related to the pork and ag industries.


Collage of Choirs is Sunday afternoon

Iowa State's four major student choirs: Iowa State Singers, Iowa Statesmen, Cantamus and Lyrica take the stage Sunday, Oct. 12 (3 p.m., Stephens Auditorium). Tickets are $10 ($5 for ISU students, seniors and youth), and can be purchased at the door or in advance at the Stephens box office.


An all-ISU trio: Jazz and craft beer at the M-Shop

The music department's jazz ensembles and the ISU Brew Lab will join forces with the Memorial Union Maintenance Shop for "Jazz Night: Happy Hour" on Wednesday, Oct. 15 (7:30 p.m., doors open at 7 p.m.). The concert will feature jazz tunes with a nod to classic adult beverages -- paired with brew lab beers served on tap. Tickets are $10 at the door.
