Cook embraces next role, with Cyclone pride
Iowa State's next president, David Cook, said he is focused on maximizing the university's land-grant mission and developing students who can fill the state's needs.
No. 9 national ranking for entrepreneurship studies
Iowa State is ranked No. 9 in The Princeton Review's 20th annual ranking of undergraduate schools for entrepreneurship studies, climbing five spots from a year ago to break into the top 10 for the first time.
State data suggests another year of enrollment growth
The state of Iowa should see one more year of growth in its number of high school graduates -- and in college enrollment-- before a decline begins in the fall of 2027. That's about a year later than most states, the Iowa Board of Regents learned during a Nov. 12 update.
Student information team relies on Workday user input
The office of student information team in the academic affairs division maintains and improves students' and employees' experiences in Workday Student. Director Geoff Janes provided an update on their progress during the Professional and Scientific Council's November meeting.
Online resources assist with productivity, work-life balance
NCFDD, for which Iowa State has a membership, supports higher education professionals through transitions at all stages of their careers. Programming is available to faculty, staff, post docs and graduate students.

Iowa Stater magazine looks at Wintersteen's career

The portable piece of a beloved university tradition
Since 2022, the campanile-carillon model has been at significant campus events and toured the state to showcase its music, another example of Iowa State outreach.
Working to safely advance humanoid robots
Computer science assistant professor Bowen Weng and a group of graduate students are working to develop and test new methods that could advance the physical intelligence and capabilities of humanoid robots. They also are writing safety standards that would allow robots and humans to interact safely.
Tips for fall garden composting
Aaron Steil, ISU Extension and Outreach consumer horticulture specialist, encourages gardeners to compost this fall to improve soil health. He explains how to build and maintain a compost pile and shares best uses for the new soil.

Cyclone wrestlers return to the mat
The fourth-ranked Iowa State wrestling team kicks off its dual season by hosting University of Nebraska, Kearney on Friday, Nov. 14 (7 p.m., Hilton Coliseum). It is military appreciation night, and faculty and staff can buy half-price tickets.
Autumn festival of lights is Saturday evening
The Indian Student Association-hosted Diwali celebration is Saturday, Nov. 15 (5-10:30 p.m., Ames City Hall auditorium). Enjoy traditional Indian dance and music performances, with an authentic Indian dinner served afterward. Tickets ($12, faculty and staff $10, students $8) may be purchased on the student organization marketplace. All are welcome.
Symphony concert is Sunday afternoon
The ISU Symphony Orchestra's next fall concert is Sunday, Nov. 16 (4:30 p.m., Tye Recital Hall, Simon Estes Music Building). Faculty members Mei-Hsuan Huang (piano) and George Work (cello) will join as featured soloists. Tickets are $10 (18 years and younger, free) at the door.
