Materials cost dashboard offers transparency for students, faculty
The dashboard provides an overview of the cost of course materials, grouped by type and cost category. It provides information on cost by college, program and course levels. It also can filter data to a specific course to see the student cost the previous year.
Ground school helps range of students soar
Aerospace engineering graduates can stand out in the marketplace with a private pilot license in addition to their degree. Completing ground school -- which is available to all students -- is one of two key elements to securing a license.
Cook's listening tour continues
In an interactive format and assisted by a live polling app, President David Cook presented eight questions Tuesday to his President's Council audience that focused on university aspirations as well as speed bumps to those goals. It was one of many listening stops scheduled in his first 100 days as he learns more about Iowa State and its stakeholders.

Beardshear projects temporarily close local sidewalks
Two multi-month replacement projects, a 50-yard section of underground utility tunnel and the Beardshear Hall roof, will restrict some of the sidewalks near Beardshear and close the west doors.

Support your favorites during Forever True Day
The goal of this annual 24 hours of giving (noon April 1-noon April 2) is to increase the number of donors making gifts, whether they're longtime or first-time supporters of Iowa State. This spring's giving platform will list more than a thousand funds so donors can give to their favorite area of campus.
Athletics hires new events manager for the Iowa State Center
The athletics department has hired Denver-based Oak View Group to manage live events in the Iowa State Center. The five-year agreement includes managing operations at C.Y. Stephens Auditorium, securing concert and event programming in Jack Trice Stadium, Hilton Coliseum and the future Sukup Cylo amphitheater, and managing parking services for all live events at the center. VenuWorks had the contract since 2015.
Three teams receive grants to pursue innovative projects
The vice president for research office awarded $150,000 in Presidential Interdisciplinary Research seed grants to three faculty-led teams for projects that address human health issues in rural and economically disadvantaged communities, improving AI hardware and next‑generation vaccine design and delivery.
Equivalent to 'an extension specialist in your pocket'
Iowa State researchers are teaming up with collaborators in Australia, India and Japan to develop an image-reliant web app that helps farmers identify and manage the insects, weeds -- and now diseases -- that threaten their crops.
Ballet residency inspires new work for art faculty member
At a recent Des Moines Ballet premiere, associate professor of art and visual culture Olivia Valentine unveiled a large weaving she created as the organization's artist-in-residence. She's currently involved in a Des Moines Ballet project with city elementary school students. Valentine's work is on display through March 28 at Olsen-Larson Galleries, West Des Moines.

Three campus forums and two drop-in sessions, all in the Memorial Union, are part of the Higher Learning Commission review team's campus visit March 30-31. The forums are organized around the commission's four accreditation criteria; register for each you'll attend.

Enjoy the nation's only student-run rodeo
The Rodeo Club's 63rd annual Cyclone Stampede will be held Friday-Saturday, March 27-28, at the Hansen Agriculture Student Learning Center. Preliminary rounds start at 7 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday, with the championship round at 7 p.m. Saturday. Session tickets are $20 ($10 for youth, free for ISU students); a weekend wristband is $35.
Iowa premiere of Estes documentary is Monday
The 90-minute documentary, "Simon Estes: A Heart and a Voice," will be screened on Monday, March 30 (5:30 p.m., MU Great Hall), followed by a conversation (7:15 p.m.) with Estes moderated by music and theatre department chair Brad Dell. The film explores the life and legacy of the trailblazing opera singer, Centerville native and F. Wendell Miller Distinguished Artist in Residence at Iowa State.
Learn how ISU police cracked an international case
During a March 31 lecture (6 p.m., MU Sun Room), ISU chief of police Michael Newton and officer Kami Feld will detail how ISU Police helped uncover an international sexual predator ring through extensive investigative work in 2020-21. Professor of psychology Zlatan Krizan will moderate.
